Building

Feng Ju Palace’s building, is completely united with the Chinese theme in that area of the park. Hundreds of Chinese artists and labour people have recreated the land of the smile in Brühl with millions of pieces of original Chinese construction parts. Amidst all the Chinese buildings one draws attention because a Chinese gong sounds every now and then: it’s Feng Ju Palace with is created with a great eye for detail. The roof is equipped with original Chinese roof tiles and each roof section is divided by gold leaf covered edges. On these edges are miniature decorations of snakes, each portraying its own story, also each roof element has a Chinese mosaic print on both sides.
The front of the building mainly consists out of wood, where six pillars, which are cut with Chinese images, carry the roof construction. The part of the roof that sticks forward features a Chinese painting. The front is completely made out of wood featuring wood engraved Chinese themes with gold leaf here and there, and in the middle a big sign that holds the name of the attraction in golden characters. This side has a platform providing a beautiful sight upon the Chinese plants and theme area. A stairway passing two typical Chinese tigers provides visitors access to the attraction. The sides of the building are featured in a Bordeaux colour and equipped with Chinese mosaics. The back of the building is completely united with the Silvermine attraction in the western part of the park, only the golden brilliance roof tops out over the rocks.

The building of Feng Ju Palace was originally another attraction: the Tanagra theatre. The Tanagra Theatre contained a show featuring dolls in Chinese style which was fully destroyed beyond repair during the 2001 fire. After the fire, the park decided to reconstruct the building into another Chinese themed attraction which is today’s Feng Ju Palace. It is made of two buildings that are distinguishable: the mainshow where people access and exit the building, and another piece where the preshow can be found. This separate building is decorated in the same style as the main building. The main building holds the entrance of the attraction, the hall, the waiting area, the mainshow and the exit. Both entrance and exit are in the same colours as the sides of the building, the ceiling has Chinese art paintings as well few lanterns here and there to light up the space.
